Are Good People Good Enough For A Holy God?

Are good acts done by a person good enough to get to heaven? Are people who try to be kind and good going to be cast out of God's presence?

Aren't people basically, at their core, good? Are good people good enough for God? It's a question that has intrigued seeking people from all walks of life through the ages.
That anyone can do something "good" is, perhaps, arguable, but, still, we see acts of heroics, dignity and sacrifice acted out by people who do not confess Jesus as the "...only begotten Son of God...".
What Does God Say?
We could get all technical and say that the acts were not good enough, done in the "right" spirit or a dozen other reasons that preclude that act from "counting" as a "good" act.
The real question is what does God say in His word. What does He have to say?

How to be Saved
While they are numerous scriptures that elude to that fact, (Matthew 3:7-8, Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19 etc..) yet these scriptures were primarily directed to the Jews who willfully and knowingly rejected Jesus. In this case repentance comes before salvation. But in every other case, especially in the Gentile world, salvation comes through Romans 10:9 “Confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart, that God has raised Him from the dead thou shall be saved.”
