Do you feel overwhelmed by circumstances in your life today? One thing leads to another and nothing seems to be what you had hoped? Do you seem to be depressed and have no strength?
In a spiritual sense your joy has been stolen. That begs the question, “Where is your joy?” You see, when your joy is placed on how things go today, it can be stolen, devoured and destroyed. That leaves you depressed and feeling hopeless. When you are hopeless, you can’t act in faith which is the definition of love (KJV Hebrews 11:1, I Corinthians 13:13)
Here is the high octane of a Spirit driven life. God plants hopes and desires into your life. Into the soil of your very essence. God has sown into you and expects increase and harvest. The devourer seeks whom he may destroy. He comes and plucks these hopes from your life.
How does Satan succeed in driving you to defeat and depression? He steals your joy. How can he steal your joy? By removing whatever you have placed your joy into. Is it your car? Your health, looks, or weight?
Maybe you’ve placed your joy into relationships. Perhaps it’s your spouse’s treatment of you, maybe when your kids obey. When your friends love you and envy you.
Whether it’s people, places or things, Satan can remove it. He gets God’s permission first (KJV Job 1:6-12) and, of course, God gives it to him if we can handle it. (KJV I Corinthians 10:13)
Then, we find that what we had placed our joy into has been removed. Hence, our joy has been removed. We get depressed and have no strength. “Well,” you ask, “What is the biblical treatment for my depression? How can the bible help me?”
Let’s start with what the bible says about strength. Proverbs 24:10 says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” Hmmm. Is your strength small? Yes it is if you feel faint, depressed and without strength to carry out the hopes and God given desires that are in your heart.
We can fix this problem by getting our joy from God. When we get our joy from God, how can Satan steal God? How can Satan destroy God? How can he devour God? Only when our joy is in a “thing” or a “feeling” or another creation of God is Satan able to take it. And, of course, God knows this and gives His approval to the removal. You see, God knows that He is our only true source of “hope” and “joy”.
OK, here come the bible verses:
Nehamiah 8:10 says, “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
If the joy of the LORD is your strength, how do I get it?
Psalm 16:11 says, “Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
Alright, we know that in His presence is “fulness of joy“, but how do we get there? How do we enter into God’s presence? Well, first you must be born again (KJV John 3:7) and that happens when we walk through God’s front door (KJV John 10:9). His front doors’ name is Jesus (KJV John 10:7) or Jeshua which means “salvation” (KJV Matthew 1:21) and you believe Romans 10:9 which says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
It means what it says. You just have to have faith which is the “…substance of things hoped for…” So, just hope for it. AND, if you continue that verse it says “…the sight of things unseen.” (KJV Hebrews 11:1) You gotta’ see it. Remember, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (KJV Proverbs 29:18)
OK, you’re “born again”, what’s next? What you need to know is that the bible says that David was the author of most of the Psalms, he was a man after God’s heart and he loved to praise God.
David says, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” That’s Psalm 100:4 and really, you should read the whole chapter (don’t worry, it’s only 5 verses…).
Focus your thoughts on God and you’ll find your problems becoming smaller.

Good counsel, thank you, though I have been a Christian for years I do struggle with depression at times and this has blessed me. I know by experience that these are effective tools. For anyone who may still experience the feelings of heaviness that come with depression, I would just add that David wrote Psalms of great sadness too, and that if we keep our eyes on Jesus, our depression can be worked together for good to those who love God (Romans 8:28). I don’t suggest to dwell there, if God gives you a way out, just don’t feel guilty when you seem “stuck” there.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, God has a plan that will surpass our wildest imagination. "...Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." KJV I Corinthians 2:9 --Gerald--

Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
God expects of us perfect obedience to his law. God has plainly stated that he expects us to be perfect. God’s people are to reflect to the world the bright rays of his glory. But in order for them to do this, they must stand where these rays can fall on them.

Upon receiving Christ, man instantly receives a new spirit, replacing the old. This spirit is complete. Since you cannot see that spirit, God’s Word is the only thing that tells you what that spirit is, the same way a mirror gives you a reflection of yourself.
