How to be Saved

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that who soever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

It is evident in this verse that Christ came to give eternal life to mankind and all man has to do is to believe and receive. Because we live in a world that rewards individual based on performance, religion finds it difficult to advocate something that is not merit based.

Therefore they argue, something else must be involved besides believing. Even the disciples of Jesus seemed to have been of the same mindset when they asked Jesus “what shall we do to do the work of God?” John 6:28. Jesus’ answer to them sets the record straight once and for all that “the work of God is to believe on whom He hath sent.” John 6:29

Likewise Paul’s answer to the jailer’s question “what must I do to be saved?” in Acts 6:30 reiterates the same thing. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved.” Acts 16:31. The Gospel is very simple: believe and receive. Because of its simplicity, man finds it too good to be true.

Our conscience on the other hand reveals how rotten we are and automatically we tend to look for things to appease it. News like “Jesus paid it all regardless how bad a sinner one is” does not at first appeal to us because it does not condemn.

Since we know we are condemned and have the evidence to prove it from Romans 1:18-20, therefore we teach that unless we confess and repent for our sins we cannot receive salvation.

While they are numerous scriptures that elude to that fact, (Matthew 3:7-8, Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19 etc..) yet these scriptures were primarily directed to the Jews who willfully and knowingly rejected Jesus. In this case repentance comes before salvation. But in every other case, especially in the Gentile world, salvation comes through Romans 10:9 “Confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart, that God has raised Him from the dead thou shall be saved.”

Furthermore, Christ’s ministry on earth was filled with untold encounters with publicans and sinners such as Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10), the Syrophenician woman (Mark 7:24-30), the woman caught in adultery (John 8: 1-11), including the Samaritan woman (John 4: 1-26), where repentance was not His primary focus. Instead Christ’s appeal to them was to believe He was the Son of God and follow Him. When it comes to repentance however, Romans 2:4 says it “is the goodness of God that lead one there.”

Contrary to religion, repentance is not a requirement for salvation. Receiving Jesus as our Lord and believing in His resurrection is the only requirement. On the cross Jesus paid for our sins. Our part is to believe and receive.

If you haven’t made Jesus your Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, do so now, and thou shall be saved.

Food For Thought

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5

Effectual Faith

Christ followed up by saying in verse 7 “Shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them.” This verse however causes many to liken God unto this unjust judge. Somehow to get something from Him, one has to continuously beg Him until He releases it —just to get rid of him so to speak. Christ, by no means, intended for any to represent God this way.

Education

True education is a grand science; for it is founded on the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom. It's that element of "Understanding" God's ways.

Listen, we need the truth. The truth -"is" "what is"- and our LORD claimed to be "THE Truth".
