“And behold, thou shall conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son, and shall call His name Jesus.” Luke 1:31
In the world of religion, Jesus is the most popular name and also the most controversial of all. He is popular in part because of His saying “If I be lifted up, I’ll draw all man unto me.” John 12:32 Although, He is lifted up in praise among many, He ranks very high also in contempt among others.
Within the Christian faith itself, the controversy over His name is alarming. Numerous books and articles are written about the pagan roots of His name causing many to question His true Hebrew name. This controversy perhaps is one of the cause of much widespread strife in His body. In fact, whole denominations are formed upon that. Indeed, to believe in Jesus name may not mean the same thing to all who call themselves Christians.
So then, is Luke correct in his declaration of the angel Gabriel concerning the name Jesus? The answer is yes. And besides it was not the only name we have for Jesus. In scripture there are hundreds of names for Jesus alone ranging from Emmanuel, Healer, Counselor, Mighty God, The Word…etc to Jesus “that Holy thing” in Luke 1:35.The power to perform miracle however, is not just in the name itself as it is in the faith that is placed in that name. If you don’t believe in your heart the Lord Jesus, a mere mention of His name would not save you be it the right or any other name.
Many Christians churches believe they are using the right name but yet they are destitute of the power of God. In Psalms 138:2 “ God magnified His Word above all His name.”
For example, Matthew 17:14-18 describes a case where the disciples could not case out the devil even though they used the right name. However, in verse 20 Jesus told them it was there unbelief that hindered them from casting out the devil. Likewise, in the temptation of Christ, it was not the name of Jesus that overcame the devil it was the written Word that did it.
James 4:7admonishes us to submit to God, then resist the devil and it will flee from us. The same James tell us that the devil believes and he trembles, but the Word causes him to flee.
Don’t get caught up in this current distraction of which Christ’s name is right. Instead get immerse into the Word and experience the power of God in your life. While Jesus name is very popular, very few are living the abundant overcoming life that Jesus came to give.
Believe in your heart today that Jesus is the solution to the world’s problem and do the same work He did. (John 14:12)

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
As to the nature of that suffering, the bible is very clear. 2 Timothy 3:12 states that “All that will live Godly shall suffer persecution.” Indeed, persecution of any sort by the opponents of the Gospel is the suffering or the cross that Christ says a disciple of His must take on.
